One might ask, “Why the hell would I need a lopsided controller for Mortal Kombat X?”

Game accessory company  PDP is working on a gamepad that is specifically for NetherRealms’  most anticipated hit Mortal Kombat X and showed the protype off at the Game Stop Expo last week.

As you can see, on the nubby side, there’s 6 huge buttons (this is the PS4 controller, the Xbox One controller has  A, B, X, Y LB and RB), and a directional stick on the left. One might mistake it for an analog stick but here’s what PDP says it is:

“The stick that you see is actually a series of micro-switches as well (just like the buttons), not an analog stick. It helps to bring the player closer to the classic arcade feel.”

Yes, the controller looks weird as hell, and we still don’t know the purpose of it’s design but PDP has assured us that it’s a prototype, not the final design.

“The Mortal Kombat X controller that we showed at the GameStop Expo is still in development, so platforms have not been finalized. We like to work with the manufacturers to get a licensed product when possible. The controllers are designed along the lines of our VS Fight Pads which came out for the Xbox 360 and PS3 a few years back.”

Mortal Kombat X hits stores April 14th, 2015 for Xbox One, Xbox 360 , Playstation 3, PS4 and PC.
